Porsche 993 Brakes

At the Autometrix Castle Combe day in October I was attacked and stalked until I agreed to buy John Thornes ex TT brake kit. This had only been used a few months and was needing a home and John would not let me leave Castle Combe.

The kit consisted of: -

Porsche 993 bi-turbo 4 piston aluminium callipers, 36/44mm piston diameter
Porsche 993 bi-turbo discs, 322 x 32mm vented with cast-in holes
EBC Pads all round
EBC Rear grooved Rotors

Pad Parts:-

In fear of my life, I had to arrange another "Oil Change" at Amd to get them fitted!
My wife thinks AmD's all day Oil changes are the worst in the business! ;o)

7-11-2002 and the brakes are superb, immediately a noticeable improvement and they look the dogs danglies!

As the rotors are not new and had been sitting around, they have some corrosion but none that wouldn't have occurred to new ones in a few months.

The standard kit comes with 10mm spacers and are not an option, RS4 wheels would hit the callipers without them. So assume you have a 2mm gap with this setup.

RS4's have an ET33 fitting and mine are ET35,which would mean my 2mm are gone!!

Luckily I have 16mm spacers so I have a bit more room in theory I should have 6mm of gap but its not as simple as that! >>>>>

The wheel design makes a difference as well, thin flat ribbon spoke means there is a larger reinforcing rib behind each spoke...these are very close to the calliper!!

There is no-way these would have fitted with 10mm spacers so if you are going for this kit with NON OEM wheels be ready for a little additional expense if you don't already have spacers!

Next stage is to paint those rear callipers red to match! ;o)
