A question of identity: from design study to production model

It's a rare event when a design study reaches production maturity without losing any of its character or fascination. But here too the Audi TT Coupé is a welcome exception to the rule.

At first glance there seem to be only minor differences between design study and production car, but a closer look reveals certain changes: the original sketches featured an extremely wide rear roof pillar, whereas the production Coupé has triangular-shaped windows at this point. These not only improve all-round visibility but also create a more free-flowing roof line, so that the entire outline of the car appears longer and more dynamic. A slight increase in length at the rear adds to this impression.

A further look at the visible differences between design study and final production car reveals that the radiator opening at the front now contains a grille of restrained appearance, the air inlets under the bumper now look larger and the rear lights have been repositioned.

The Audi TT Coupé's remarkable degree of conformity between initial design and subsequent production model, between draft and final product so to speak, is due in no small measure to the determination and enthusiasm of everyone concerned with this project, allied to Audi's advanced development techniques.
